CAMM is sorry to report the passing of Captain Wolfgang Schröder, former master of the Zim Mexico III. Captain Schröder apparently lost his life in a fire on a yacht off the coast of Cork Ireland while fishing. Further information can be found at the following linked news story from The Daily Mail (London). Many of our members will remember Captain Schröder and the accident his ship was involved in, in Mobile, Alabama.

CAMM Resolution on Florida Pilots
CAMM attendees at the 2010 AGM approved a Resolution to the Florida Legislature in support of the Florida Pilots Association.

SF 2010: Seafarer Issues
March 9th, 10th 2010 - Houston, TX
The conference was a great success with over 60 attendees from various commercial, social, labor and governmental groups all in attendance. Final documents are now posted for the Seafarer Issues 2010 conference in Houston, TX. Topics include the 29 Day Rule, Criminalization of Pollution, Restriction of Shore Access, and the Seafarer's Manslaughter Act.

Efforts to start Boston area chapter
Thank you to Captain Craig Dalton for assisting us locally with this endeavor. Those living in the Boston area interested in setting up and/or joining a Boston chapter, please contact Capt. Dalton at captdalton@mastermariner.org. More information coming in March 2010!

Baltimore/Wash. D.C. meetings successfully resumed!
Thank you to those who attended the meetings this last year. Our meetings are very productive with a great turn-outs. The Baltimore/DC Chapter will host the 2011 CAMM National AGM in spring.

Meetings will take place at the Pilot Maritime Center (3rd Floor) 3720 Dillon Street Baltimore, Maryland 21224. The meeting will commence at 1130. Please rsvp to CaptHartnett@mastermariner.org. All existing and prospective new members of CAMM are invited to attend.

All existing members of the CAMM Balt/Wash Chapter are asked to contact CaptHartnett@MasterMariner.org and provide their updated contact information.

Triple CAMM’s Membership Drive
Effective Sept. 1, 2009, a current CAMM member who sponsors three or more new eligible, approved and paid members in a 12-month period will receive a one-year credit on their membership dues. If you're not a CAMM member, and would like to become one, contact a CAMM member in your maritime community and ask them to sponsor you.

CAMM issues Press Release calling for strong action against pirates

The Council of American Master Mariners adds its voice to the growing outcry against the inaction of the US Administration and the UN against Somali pirates. National President, Captain Calvin Hunziker, urges President Obama to put an end to the piracy off the Somalia coast once and for all. Read full press release.
